Charles J. “Chuck” Clayton, 85, of Portland, Oregon died Friday, May 18, 2018 while in hospice care. Chuck was born December 27, 1932 in Chico, CA to John Clayton and Mae Belle Howland. Chuck married the love of his life, Linda, on June 9, 2003 in Portland, OR. Chuck is survived by his wife, daughter Cheryl Price of Sisters, OR, son Jonathan Clayton of Portland, OR, step-sons Shawn Welch of Leander, TX and Chris Welch of Portland, OR, and step-daughter Heather Welch-Sandford of Vancouver, WA. Chuck and Linda shared 15 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. Chuck’s son Michael preceded him in death. Chuck grew up in Winters, CA and came to Portland to attend college, and earned his bachelor’s degree from Warner Pacific. He worked as a detention officer for the Multnomah County Juvenile Detention Center for 33 years. Chuck shared a love of flying with long-time friend Roe Yates, with whom he ran an aerial advertising company. Chuck also had a passion and a gift for photography. Most of all, Chuck enjoyed spending time with his wife, Linda. A memorial service will be held at Wilhelm’s Portland Memorial Funeral Home, Friday, June 1, at 2:00pm. Reverend Bill Phillips will officiate. Reception to follow. Please feel free to leave a condolence for the family.
