Willwerscheid Funeral Home & Cremation Service - Grand Avenue
Sarah Elizabeth Hughes
November 14th, 1973 - February 17th, 2025
Sarah Elizabeth Hughes of Saint Paul, Age 51
With very heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our precious Sarah Hughes on February 17, 2025 surrounded by family and loved ones. Sarah had a rare condition called spinocerebellar ataxia that limited her physical capabilities but never defined her. Sarah lived most of her life at our cherished family home on Lombard Ave.
She was the seventh of eight children of Bernadette and Frank Hughes and their only beloved daughter. Sarah attended Como and Humboldt schools and worked many proud years at Midwest Special Services. Sarah had long and loving relationships with many caregivers, to whom our family is eternally grateful. As our mom would always say, “Sarah never missed a beat”. She was always so determined to not let her disability hold her back, to express her feelings, and to do what others were doing. You did it all honey!
We have very fond memories of our time with her at the cabin and celebrating holidays and birthdays together. Her grace, love and determination will forever be a guide for us all. Her inspiring and beautiful life had an immeasurable impact on our family. Her sparkling eyes and radiant smile melted our hearts. Our sweet princess will always be missed but our memories of her will never be forgotten. We love and thank you so much Sarah.
Preceded in death by her father, Frank, mother, Bernadette, and brother Steve,
Sarah is survived by her siblings Dan (Josephine), Mike (Kristin), Paul (Angie), Nate (Liz), Jake (Lily), Joe (Isabel), and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Willwerscheid Funeral Home on Grand Avenue on March 2 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. The funeral will be at 11:00 a.m. on March 3 at Saint Thomas More Catholic Church on Summit Avenue (with Visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m.). In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Living Well Disability Services (livingwell.org), which provided a loving and caring home for Sarah since 2022.
