Myrelle "Mia" Pena Ramos
August 8th, 1933 - February 12th, 2025
"She danced with joy, she painted with grace, her laughter lit up every place. A heart so giving, a soul so free, now soaring high eternally."
Myrelle "Mia" Peña Ramos, 91, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, passed away peacefully on February 12, 2025. Born on August 8, 1933, in Azul, Argentina, Mia was a passionate woman who carried great pride in her Argentinian heritage.
She was the daughter of Alfredo Pastor Begbeder and Nélida Lucrecia Fredes and the sister of Shirley Mónica (Padrón). She studied law, nutrition, and psychology and earned a diploma in culinary art from the University of Buenos Aires. She shared a beautiful life with her late husband, Abelardo Peña-Ramos, whom she deeply loved and admired. Together, they built a family filled with love, learning, and artistic endeavors.
A woman devoted to serving others, Mia was actively involved in the Catholic Church, serving as a Eucharistic minister and volunteering at her sons’ Catholic schools frequently. She gave freely, always ensuring visitors were welcomed with warmth and a table full of delicious food. A professionally trained chef, she delighted in preparing elaborate meals, filling her home with the comforting aromas of her kitchen. She also enjoyed writing poems in her youth, participating in book clubs in her middle age, and painting with Abelardo in her later years.
Mia had an adventurous spirit, traveling across Europe and the Americas with Abelardo. She loved languages, often studying French and Italian, and embraced the beauty of music, from the passionate rhythms of tango to the melodies of 1980s pop hits. She danced with joy, painted with heart, and shared stories with a captivating presence that endeared her to everyone she met.
From Argentina to Missouri, to Florida, and finally to Colorado, Mia left an indelible mark on every place she called home. She cherished sunsets on the beaches of Redington Shores, laps in the pool, and evenings dancing at Redington Towers with Abelardo and dear friends. She believed the kindest people in the world lived in the Midwest, and she embodied that kindness always.
Mia was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Abelardo. She is survived by her sister, Shirley, of Buenos Aires, Argentina, her sons, Lee (Lynette) Penya of Abilene, TX, and Tulio (Dena) Peña of Colorado Springs, CO, and her grandchildren, Reilly, Hansen, Sophie, Avery, Caleb, and Livia.
A memorial service to celebrate Mia’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 28, 2025, at Springs Funeral Services-North in Colorado Springs, CO. She will then be laid to rest at Evergreen Cemetery in Colorado Springs, CO. Donations in Mia’s memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at https://www.stjude.org/donate.
