In Loving Memory of John Emmett Johnson
John Emmett Johnson, 75, of Haines City, Florida passed away peacefully on February 19, 2025, with family at his side. He was born in Washington D.C. and lived in Alexandria, VA during his childhood, then later to Colonial Beach, VA then on to Florida where he would spend the last 20 years. John was a cherished member of his community, the Sweetwater Golf and Tennis Community in Haines City, FL.
John attended public schools, including George Washington High School, in Alexandria, VA, and a year at the Miller School of Albemarle near Charlottesville, VA before enlisting in and serving in the US Marine Corps. Upon his return from serving his Country, he worked locally in the Alexandria area until finding his niche. His strength was building and problem-solving construction things. If John was interested in something, he excelled at it. One of those things was cooking! John was an outstanding cook. A few days before he died, he was cooking for and serving his community for a Breast Cancer Fundraiser event.
John was predeceased by his parents, Matthew "Neil" and Margaret Johnson of Alexandria, VA and Haines City, FL and his elder brother Matthew "Butch" Johnson of Woodbridge, VA. He is survived by his brother Martin Johnson of Southport, NC, his former wife Karen London, his four daughters, Melissa James of Atlantic Beach, FL, Aimee Thomas of Manassas, VA, and Elizabeth DiGiulian and Angela Johnson of Warrenton, VA, his grandchildren, Victoria, Colin, Philip, Amelia, Noah, Bella, and London, and one great-grandchild, Daxton, six cousins; Elizabeth Holloway Major, John Holloway, Maggie Holloway Odom, Harold Holloway Jr, Thomas "Jay" Johnson, Anita Evans Wildman, and many more extended family members and friends.
A graveside service will be held on July 30th, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at National Memorial Cemetery at Quantico near Quantico Marine Corps Base.
