She worked as a Payroll Clerk for Jantzen Knitting Mills on Sandy Blvd,Portland,OR and then went to work at Kaiser Permanente until she retired at age 65. She Loved Jewelry and Coordinating it with her clothes & shoes, she was a sharp dressed lady even when she was off work. From her Hair to her nails to her toes she always took great pride in how she looked. She loved keeping her hair curled & nails painted! She was Beautiful inside and Out. She was an Amazing Mom, she made each and every one of us feel as if we were the greatest thing that had ever happened to her. She worked hard to take care of all of us, nursing us while we were sick, getting us all thru school to helping us dress for our weddings ,watching her Son Graduate from the Military and being there for the birth of our children, her Grandchildren. Mom loved to work in her yard and always had a beautiful bouquet of flowers in her vase. She loved her garden like she loved her family, with all her heart. She LOVED to Cook, especially Sweet Treats as well as Make her own Jams & Canned Foods! She took great pride in owning her own home and inviting anyone to visit at anytime of day, that’s how she was ,always had open arms and an open door to share her love, her grandson called her home “The Place where you always felt safe”. She was Thankful and Blessed feeling to have 9 Grandchildren and 14 Grandchildren whom all lived close by from West Linn to Portland,Vancouver to Ridgefield. Her Heart Glowed with love for all of them. She loved to go to the beach and always wanted to one day move there. She loved to play cards all the time. She spent many “Babysitting” hours showing her grandson /grandkids how to “play cards” and checkers. She loved games. She also loved to gamble for fun,it was the thrill of the spin that intrigued her,and in the old days the coins that shot out of the machines when she won! She Has a Great Sense of humor, she always loved to make all of us laugh. She has a smile that warms your heart, that we will never forget,it is enbeded In our hearts and souls. She loved old movies and Music, she used to watch the credits after all the shows and know so many names of stars in the movies. On Weekends she always played Old songs while she worked around the house. She loved Elvis,Bobby Vinton,Barbara Stresand ,The Rat Pack. Evelyn LOVED Animals..she always had a Dog or Bird and she has Grand Dogs & Cats that she buys Birthday & Christmas Gifts for all the time. She drove about 3 times in her life when she was about 17,then never again, she enjoyed that all of her kids took her places. This way we got to enjoy more time with Mom and the rides to and fro. She went on Many trips with all of her kids, from Searching for ancestors in Stokholm Sweden to Yellowstone National park,California where she lived for a short while working for Mobile Oil in 1963 but quickly returned as she missed Oregon, her home. She went to Victoria BC Canada, and many camping trips and beach trips . We all treasured all the times spent with Mom. She battled for all of her retired years with Cancer, Diabetes & High Blood pressure. She broke her back in 2013 which made her slow down a lot,she didn’t like that at all.She was so independent and went from sun up to sun down taking care of herself and anyone that needed it. In 2014 She suffered from a stroke & Multiple pneumonias which kept her hospitalized a lot.Family stayed with her often and her granddaughter was hired for awhile to care for her. In January of 2015 while in a nursing home recuperating she suffered another stroke causing damage to her right leg,one which we now called the “Elvis Leg” this made her laugh! She was just no longer able to live alone, this was devastating to her. She always was SO Very Independent .She moved in with her daughter Julie & Husband Randy where she was happy and went for walks around the neighborhood with her daughter daily, again always making a new friend with her beautiful smile. In June she got up in the night and forgot to use her walker, she never liked that thing, she fell and shattered her left hip and was hospitalized for some time and could no longer get around with just the walker, she had to use a wheelchair more often and was just very weak. She transferred to Assisted living and from there an Adult Foster home. She came down with Pnemonia and a COPD Flare up which caused her to be hospitalized for 2days. This seemed to have helped her so she was discharged Saturday October 17th at 4:30pm . We took her to her foster home where she was happy to be back at, she smiled from ear to ear all day long while visiting with family and joking every minute ,just like Mom.She smiled so Big and waved good bye to us as we left and later that night we get a call that she won’t wake up and was sent to the hospital where she later passed away surrounded by her Daughters Linda,Teresa,Julie ,Grandson Wayne,Son Micheall, Son in Law Randy, she had severe bleeding in her brain. The Doctors tell us she had no pain, however we did see a tear in her eye as if to say to us all..” I am sad because you are sad” She was a fighter until the end and still showing us how much she loved us by trying to hang in there for US. Our Mom will be Deeply Missed, her smile, her sweet hugs and kisses will live on In our hearts and souls forever. She is Soaring with the Angels as God Has his Golden Gloves on Caring for her now, she is no longer in pain, we know she is dancing like nobodys watching right this very minute :) And she STILL has that Gorgeous Auburn Hair ,not a grey hair anywhere!! Evelyn is Survived by her 5 children Linda Jenkins( Husband Ernie),Dianne Garoutte,Teresa Chapman, Michaell Fay (Wife Shirley), Julie Onuliak (Husband Randy). Brother Jack Turner. 9 Grandchildren,14 Great Grandchildren. Preceded in Death by Mother Julia, Father Audie,Sister Audrey. A Note from Teresa Chapman: My mom Evelyn I. Fay spent her life working, taking care of her five children. She had the heart of an Angel. Mom took care of me through all my life, she was always there good, bad whatever. She loved her home, gardening, being independent, enjoying life, always positive, supportive in any situation. Mom touched the hearts of everyone she met. I feel so very lucky to have had her as my mom. There is no limitation of what I would have done for her. It broke my heart she endured so much pain in her "Golden Years". She never complained. I am so very thankful I did all of the fun things and spent all of the time with her I did. My only regret is she suffered so much, especially this last year. She was my life, she is with me in mind and heart 24/7. I hope only I can be half the woman she was. I will never be the same, the hurt will never go away of losing her. I feel like my heart has been torn from me. The only thing that gives me half a peace of mind is knowing she is no longer in pain, she is home with her mom, dad, sis, grand daughter, son -in-law, and many friends who left before her. Please God treat her with golden gloves, She is missed so much. Teresa and Jake Chapman love her more and more all the time. I will see her again, I know that in my heart. Service Information

Wilhelm's Portland Memorial Funeral Home

At Wilhelm's Portland Memorial, we have a rich history dating back to 1901 when we became the first crematory west of the Mississippi River, known then as The Portland Cremation Association. Our historic chapel, marked by its cornerstone placed on February 5th, 1901, has stood the test of time. Today, our memorial site spans 8 stories, approximately 7 miles of corridors of beautifully preserved architecture, and the largest mausoleum on the west coast, spanning 2.5 city blocks....
