Farley Funeral Homes and Crematory - Venice
Laurence (Larry) H. Welliver
December 17th, 1954 - February 20th, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Laurence H. Welliver, affectionately known as Larry, on February 20, 2025, at the age of 70. Larry was a devoted father, brother, partner, and friend whose presence and kindness touched many lives.
Born on December 17, 1954, in Elmira, New York, Larry grew up in Wellsburg, NY, before eventually raising a family in Big Flats, NY. After many years of hard work, he retired to Venice, Florida, where he spent his remaining years surrounded by close friends and family. He is survived by his daughter, Kimberly Welliver of Charlotte, NC; his brother, Jerry Welliver, and sister-in-law, Carolyn Welliver of Horseheads, NY; a sister-in-law, Mary Welliver of Lakeland, FL and his significant other, Vicki McCullough of Venice, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents, Anne (Murray) Welliver and Wilmot Welliver, and his brothers, David and Raymond Welliver.
Larry had a distinguished career with the New York State Department of Corrections, dedicating many years of service to his work. His commitment left a lasting impact on his colleagues and the community. Outside of his professional life, Larry had a true passion for the outdoors and adventure. An avid motorcycle rider and boater, he loved to travel across the country, embracing the freedom and thrill of the open road. He also had a lifelong love for woodworking and construction, taking great pride in creating things with his hands, even when faced with challenges.
Larry’s generosity and selflessness were apparent to all who knew him. A proud member of the Wild Pigs, Penn-York Chapter, he was affectionately known as “MacGyver” for his resourcefulness and problem-solving skills. Larry was always the first to offer help, dropping everything to assist friends, neighbors, or anyone in need.
A celebration of Larry’s life will be held in Venice, Florida, and in Upstate New York at a later date. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all whose lives he touched with his kindness, humor, and generosity.
