Mission Mortuary - Monterey
Vicenta Lao Gonzales
July 14th, 1928 - February 13th, 2025
Vicenta Gonzales, 96, peacefully passed away on February 13, surrounded by her family. Known to many as “Lola” or “Auntie Vising,” Vicenta will forever be remembered for her selflessness, nurturing spirit, and constant love for those around her. A cherished wife, mother, grandmother, and matriarch, she lived a life dedicated to family and service to others.
Born in Kalibo, Philippines, on July 14, 1928, Vicenta was the eldest of five siblings. As the proud eldest sister, she assumed a natural leadership role in her family, always taking care of others before herself. In 1958, she left her homeland and immigrated to the United States, where she would go on to build a family and make an impact on all those who crossed her path.
Vicenta was the heart of her family. She had a special bond with her daughter and loved going to the market with her son-in-law. She also spent countless cherished hours with her granddaughters, not only enjoying their company but playing a pivotal role in raising them. Above all, she cherished bringing everyone together, especially around the dinner table, where she poured her love into every dish. Vicenta enjoyed gardening and cooking, and nothing made her heart fuller than sharing a meal with those she loved. A woman of resilience and strength, she could often be found cooking Filipino food and playing mahjong with friends and family, where she was known to be unbeatable.
She is survived by her daughter, Debbie, and son-in-law, Bruce, as well as her granddaughters, Margaux and Gena, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A rosary will be prayed at San Carlos Church on Thursday, March 20th, at 9:30 AM. The funeral mass will follow at 10:00 AM, also at San Carlos Church. Vicenta's love and legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
