Richard Lynn Roberts
October 28th, 1950 - February 25th, 2025
Richard Lynn (Dick) Roberts passed away peacefully at home on February 25, 2025. He was born October 28, 1950, in LaJunta, Colorado, the sixth child of Dale and Estalee Roberts. Shortly thereafter they moved to Black Forest, Colorado, where Dick was raised.
He and his siblings grew up riding horses, Dick was an excellent horseman and won numerous ribbons in gymkhanas. He also rodeoed a bit, riding saddle broncs. He graduated from Air Academy High in 1968 and tried college in Pueblo considering becoming a teacher, but he soon realized he wanted to follow in his father’s footsteps and learn a trade. He started at a sheet metal shop, then became an apprentice and Journeyman plumber, working for Thermaflo in the 70s. An opportunity arose in the late 70s to work with a former associate on the Western Slope during the oil shale boom, so he took it and moved to Meeker Colorado. He met his future wife, Kim, there in 1979. They married in 1980 and remained in Meeker until the boom went bust in 1983, and Dick chose to come back to Colorado Springs to find work. He worked for a couple years with his brother-in-law, Lyman Lyle and after that, Jolly Plumbing, eventually finding his way to Herman’s Plumbing and Heating, as a Journeyman, then Master Plumber. He was also an excellent heating/boiler tech and could get the older boilers working when nobody else could. He was at Hermans’ for over 20 years. In 2006, he was ready to take it a little easier, so he applied and was hired at Pikes Peak Regional Building department as a Mechanical Inspector. He spent the rest of his working years there and retired in 2018. Dick enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, shooting trap, playing poker, good bourbon, the Broncos, and visiting with his many friends. He was an extremely handy guy, he could do carpentry, build fence, and fix just about anything, including vehicles. He was a 30-year member of The Fraternal Order of Eagles, joining down in Benson, Arizona where his father was a member, then transferring his membership up here to Aerie 3260. He served several offices here including President, Vice President and Trustee. He will be remembered for his outgoing, happy personality and his engaging smile. “Be good to your neighbor, remember I might be one”.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Dennis; sister, Glenda Zeigler; nephews, Darrel Enos and Cody Vosburg.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Kim; sisters, Cece, Doris, and Patty; plus, many beloved nieces and nephews.
There will be a Celebration of Life held Saturday, March 29th, 2025, at the Fraternal Order of the Eagles 3260, 1830 N. Academy Blvd. at 2:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers please donate to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
“I’ll walk just beyond the moon, then turn and wait for you”. I’m holding ya to that, my Bear.
