In Loving Memory

Beulah Mae Horry was born January 12, 1943. She was the 5th child of 12 born to Marshall and Edith (Wilkinson) Patton on Indian Creek in Middleburg, Ky. Dr. Creech was the delivering doctor. Beulah accepted the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at a very early age at Mt. Salem Baptist Church in Mt. Salem, Kentucky. As a child she loved to play in the water, work on the farm, and spend time with her grandparents, Ed and Cora Wilkinson who lived about a mile up the road.

She attended Lincoln High School in Stanford, Ky and left shortly after school moving to Lexington, Ky. She spent some time there and then parted ways. In 1964, her first child was born, Cynthia Lynn L. Hunter (1964). Three years later, she was married and had a son, Anthony Barnette Jones (1967). However, it wasn’t until her time in Hawaii where she met the love of her life, Henry C. Horry. They were married in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii on May 11, 1973. Together they were able to live in many places such as Hawaii, San Diego, CA, and Summerville, SC. During her time in South Carolina, she enjoyed the weather, but also began the journey of pursuing her education at Trident Technical College learning the skills in accounting. Beulah and Henry relocated due to work and finally settled in the quaint town of Romulus, MI (1977). It was during her time in Michigan, Beulah joined the United States Air Force Reserves and worked at the Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Allen Park, MI as an Eligibility Clerk. In 1980, Beulah and her husband Henry, welcomed her third child, Leticia Nicole Horry(1980).

Cherishing motherhood of her three children, Beulah also continued to serve more than a decade of military service and continued her faith at First Baptist Church of Romulus through the years. Thereafter she returned to school to continue her passion for learning, utilizing her cosmetology license and developing new esthetician skills. Beulah used those skills and worked for many years providing services to help people to feel beautiful and empowered by caring for their skin and bodies.

Beulah was passionate about shopping, fashion, her dogs (Bella and Bailey) and spending time with friends and family near and far. It was not uncommon for her to take frequent trips to her home state of Kentucky. Beulah also loved children, especially her grandchildren, and was quick to help care for them at a moments notice. She cherished her nieces and nephews and loved to spend lots of time talking on the phone to her siblings late into the night. Beulah was tough and spirited in only a way that she could be. She had no reservations to, “tell it how it is or needs to be”, no matter how much she loved you.

Beulah departed this life on Sunday, March 9, 2025 at the Regency Canton Rehabilitation Center, after a fierce fight against illness. Beulah is preceded in death by her parents: Marshall and Edith (Wilkinson) Patton. Siblings: James (Mary) Patton, Wilma (Sam) Gooch, Gladys (Fred) Bridgewater, Clifford (Libby) Patton, and Donald Ray Patton.

Beulah is survived by her loving husband of over 51 years, Henry C. Horry. Her children: Cynthia Hunter, Anthony (Gail) Jones, and Leticia Horry. Grandchildren: Candace Christian, Tierra Hunter, Shelby Jones, Laura Jones, Zachary Luellen, and Joshua Maverick Horry-Lyde, and two great grandchildren: Azah Chai Hunter and Violet Jones. Her siblings: Wilhelemenia Crawford, Willis (Dorothy Jean) Patton, Kenneth (Bonita) Patton, Lester (Betty) Patton, Thomas (Karen) Patton, Loretta Patton, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and Godchildren.

The family extends a sincere thank you for all of your love, support, and generosity during this difficult time. May God bless you and keep you always.

A graveside service will be held at Fort Jackson National Cemetery on Monday, March 24 at 1pm.
