Audrey Flo Lorenz

Audrey F. Lorenz went home to her Lord on March 17, 2025. She was born in Kankakee, Illinois, the daughter of Herbert and Benita Sherrill on August 23, 1941. She was the oldest of six children. She was preceded in death by her parents, her son, Deon Gray and her husband, Monty Lorenz. She is survived by all her siblings-Ronald Sherrill (Sue), Robert Sherrill (Donna), Gail Sherrill, Steve Sherrill (Ethel), and Jeanne Strawbridge, her son Bryan Gray (Nicole), daughters Robyn Gray and Karyn Hill (Dave), and three grandchildren, Adam David (Rachel), Kaitlyn Gray and Trevor Gray.

For several years Audrey worked as a nurse’s aide in the recovery room at St. Anthony’s hospital in Crown Point, Indiana. When the hospital she worked for went bankrupt and had to drastically cut her salary, she decided to move to Florida to be closer to her mom and her brother Bob. She began selling life insurance under the guidance of her brother. She later met and married her “prince,” Monty Lorenz. They moved into a lovely home in the horse country of Ocala and lived their best life with their dog Gabbi until Monty passed away too soon. They were loyal members of Meadowbrook Church where they met several people and gained many lifelong friends. The last few years of her life she was surrounded by dear friends who were very helpful when her health began to decline. She always had her loyal dog Ollie by her side as well. With the help of her special friend, and caretaker John Berry, she was able to continue living at home up until the last few weeks. Audrey was a very strong-willed, independent person and didn’t like that she needed help from anyone. She instead wanted to help others. When friends stopped by to visit, she loved to send them home with something she baked. It is a blessing to know that she is now at peace, and in the arms of Jesus. She will be missed by many.

A memorial service to honor and celebrate Audrey’s life will be held on Saturday, April 5th, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Hiers-Baxley funeral Services located at 910 E. Silver Springs Blvd., Ocala, FL 34470.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to a local animal shelter or to the ASPCA.
