Edward (Ted) Flynn Jr. of Berkley, Michigan, passed away on March 15th, 2025. A true legend in our hearts, Ted was known for his kind nature, his love of community, and his deep passion for the game of baseball and softball.

Born on May 21st 1931 to Edward and Evelyn Flynn.  Ted grew up with a love of sports that would stay with him all his life. He spent countless hours playing, watching, and talking about the game he cherished. Whether cheering for the Tigers or teaching his family the fundamentals of the game, his knowledge and enthusiasm for baseball was contagious. He could often be spotted sitting on his front porch watching the kids and ladies play on the field across from his house.

Ted was married to his Ferndale High School sweetheart, Ellen Jane (Beno) for 73 years.  Their long marriage was a symbol love and dedication.

Ted worked most of his life for the United States Postal Service where those on his route became part of his family.  When serving as a Marine he was also the mail carrier delivering letter to those serving. As a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, he created a legacy of love, laughter and unwavering support. He instilled in those around him the importance of hard work and the joy of spending time with those you love. His wisdom, humor, and caring nature was shared with many and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Ted’s passion for sports, particularly baseball/softball, and his contributions to the sports community, Berkley, and family will never be forgotten.

He is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, and many loved ones who will always carry his memory in their hearts. He is now reunited with those who have gone before him, but his spirit will live on in every baseball game watched, every sunset at the jetty, crossword puzzle, and every story shared. He was a coach, a second father and grandfather to many others, a jokester, a Wheel of Fortune enthusiast, listener, steady presence, and friend to many.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Mott Children’s Hospital in his honor (where his Grandson Greg received life saving care), or the family is collecting funds for a memorial near Ted’s favorite Sunset spot in Venice Florida, and the baseball fields in Berkley.

Rest in Peace, Grandpa.  The world has lost a true champion, but your legacy will continue to inspire generations to come.
