Debra Ann Alaspa, 72, peacefully passed away and gained her angel wings with her family by her side at Essentia Health Medical Center in Duluth, MN, on March 20, 2025. Born on January 14, 1953, in Cloquet, MN, Debra was a cherished and lifelong resident of her hometown. Her life was a testament to love, resilience, and devotion to those she held dear.

 

Debra graduated from Cloquet Senior High School in 1971. Her legacy is carried forward by her three beloved children: Kimberly Alaspa, Alana Alaspa, and Casey Alaspa (Misha). She was the proud grandmother of Ashton, Zaylee, and Zahra who were the light of her life. Surviving relatives include her siblings Craig Salo (Konnie), Randy Westerham (Colleen), Dixie Kettner, and Shawn Westerham. 

 

She was preceded in death by her long-time partner Alan Alaspa, her father Sherman Salo, her mother Delores Elmer, her brother Gary Scott Salo, her nephew Chaz Kettner, Prez Kettner, and many others.

 

Debra was a devoted homemaker whose greatest passion was nurturing her family. She had a special love for animals, which led her to volunteer at local animal shelters for many years. Known for her kindness, humor, and unyielding resilience, Debra faced life’s challenges with grace and a smile.

 

Services for Debra will take place on Friday, April 11, 2025, at Journey Christian Church in Cloquet, MN, 1400 Washington Ave, Cloquet, MN 55720. Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM, followed by the funeral service from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Immediately afterward, a Celebration of Life gathering will be held at the River Inn Bar and Grill, 3212 River Gate Ave, Cloquet, MN 55720.

 

In lieu of flowers, kindly consider donating to local animal shelters or organizations dedicated to dementia research in Debra's memory.

 

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Interfaith Care Center, as well as the Essentia Health Medical Center Intensive Care Unit and Palliative Care team, for their exceptional care and support.

 

Debra’s compassion, dedication, resilience and love leave an indelible mark on this world. She will be profoundly missed but lovingly remembered, always.
