Lillian Eleanor Canard
February 12th, 1937 - March 20th, 2025
Lillian Eleanor (Mehltretter) Canard, 88, of Jefferson passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 20, 2025.
Lillian was born February 12, 1937, in Fort Atkinson to Henry and Eleanor (Hassenfeldt) Mehltretter, the middle of three children. In 1955, she graduated from Fort Atkinson High School. After high school, Lillian started a family which blessed her with three daughters Barb, June, and Joy.
Lillian was happiest when she had a quiet afternoon to work on sewing, crafting adventures, baking, or any other creative project. She loved to sit on the front porch in the summertime and enjoy the beauty of nature. She adored her family and cherished the time she spent with them.
Lillian was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Edwin Mehltretter.
She is survived by her daughters Barbara Canard, of Jefferson, June (Nolan) VandeZande, of Des Moines, IA, and Joy Klein, of Lake Mills; she is also survived by her grandchildren Chris (Mary) Klein, of Lake Mills, Ashley (Kevin) Uselman, of Waterloo, WI, Emma VandeZande, of Seattle, WA, and Luke VandeZande, of Des Moines, IA; four great-grandchildren; and her sister, Jane Mehltretter, of Hurleyville, NY.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the caring staff at Alden Estates for the compassionate care their mother received.
A private family service will be held at a later date so Lillian can once more enjoy a beautiful summer day.

We Entrusted Lillian Canard's Care To
Nitardy Funeral Homes - Fort Atkinson
We have proudly served the Southern Wisconsin community for over 90 years, when Hilmar A. Nitardy opened his first funeral home in the area. In 1984, his son Russ knew it was time to offer professional, compassionate services to the Fort Atkinson community, and we constructed a new funeral home to address its needs. We feel so fortunate to be a part of the community, and have grown our family alongside the community for three generations....
