Nancy L Gutierrez passed away peacefully March 24, 2025, surrounded by family and loved ones at the age of 66.

Born in Winter Haven Florida on April 6, 1958, Easter Sunday, Nancy arrived at the hospital ahead of her parents as she was delivered in the car on the way to the hospital.

Nancy is survived by her sisters, Kathy (Hoppy) Cassady, Rita (Robert) Kane and Janet Shetler. Niece and nephews Heather S. Esposito, Michael Shetler and Joseph Cassady and many great nieces and nephews. Her beloved fur babies, Molly, Cody and Patches.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Lena and Phil Gutierrez and partner Beth Haley.

Nancy proudly served as one of the first female firefighters with Polk County Fire Department for 30 years, achieving the rank of Lieutenant. During her service she worked as an EMT/Firefighter and Engineer at stations located in Polk City, Loughman and Alturas. Later in her career, Nancy chose to transfer to a position where she oversaw the Polk County‘s Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), PCFR’s Cadet program and PCFR‘s Volunteer Firefighter program. Nancy‘s most proud achievement was being a founding member of the Polk County Fire Department’s Honor Guard, which led her to mentor and train up-and-coming members of PCFR. Nancy was a beloved member who served with honor and distinction, always upholding the values of duty, respect, and service to her community.

Nancy enjoyed being out in nature, whether it be traveling, camping, fishing or just sitting by the campfire. She had many tales to tell. Her infectious smile and love of all were one of her biggest traits. Holidays were a special time for her friends. They knew Nancy was going to give them some type of delicious treats– buckeyes, pecan puffs, Easter bread, homemade cranberry sauce, or the family‘s famous “Dago Peanuts”.

One question remains unanswered by her family – how in the world was she team “Pepsi” in a family of team “Coke”?

In Lieu of flowers please donate to the American Heart Association or your favorite charity. Hug your loved ones and tell them you love them every day!
