Kenneth "DEAN" Goin, age 83, passed away on March 25, 2025, in Boulder, Colorado. Born on February 15, 1942, in Flagler, Colorado, Dean lived a life marked by service, skill, and spirited storytelling.

Dean was part of the first graduating class of Palmer High School in 1960—formerly known as Colorado Springs High School—where he played hockey and participated in the roller skating club. His early years set the tone for a lifetime of energy and engagement with his community.

A master diesel mechanic by trade, Dean had a remarkable ability to fix anything from lawnmowers to semi-trucks. His mechanical expertise was matched by his dedication to public service; he volunteered for many years with the Security Fire Department. Later in life, after retiring from his primary career, Dean continued to serve others as a security guard and found joy in helping with Sunday school at church.

Dean proudly served his country as a sharpshooter in the U.S. Army Special Forces during the Vietnam War. His bravery was exemplified when he was declared missing in action for ten days before making it back home—a testament to his resilience and strength.

Throughout his life, Dean embraced a wide range of hobbies that reflected his adventurous spirit and love for camaraderie. He was an active member of the Security Fire Department’s relay team and enjoyed square dancing, camping, hunting, fishing, and participating in a black powder gun club. Perhaps most memorably, Dean was a gifted storyteller—his tales could captivate any audience until the very last word. Whether fact or fiction (and sometimes it was hard to tell), his stories left lasting impressions on all who heard them.

Dean's legacy lives on through his children: son Mike; daughters Tracey (Lew Pfeifle) and Shelly Dawn Hanowell; stepsons Doug Powell, Gary Powell (Jodi), and Blake Powell. He also leaves behind ten grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews who will remember him fondly.

He is reunited in rest with his father Kenneth, mother Abby; brothers Don and Jim; sister Betty Jo; son Patrick; and son-in-law Carl Hanowell.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2025, from 10:00 AM at Church for All Nations Southwest Campus located at 2188 Executive Circle, Colorado Springs, CO 80906.

May Kenneth "DEAN" Goin’s memory bring comfort to those who knew him and inspiration to those who hear his story.
