James Clay
March 20th, 1957 - April 2nd, 2025
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of James Clay on Wednesday, April 02, 2025, with his family by his side. He was a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend.
James “Jim” Clay was born on March 20, 1957, to Bill and Betty Clay. Jim was raised in Charleston, West Virginia and was a proud graduate of Herbert Hoover High School’s Class of 1975. Jim remained in West Virginia until 1987, when he moved with his family to Lakeland, Florida.
Jim was the kind of person who never met a stranger. His warm smile, quick wit, and easygoing nature made everyone feel like family, no matter how long they’d known him. He had an incredible ability to brighten any room he walked into with his infectious humor and kind heart. He found joy in the simple pleasures of life, especially spending time with his children and grandchildren. Family was the center of his world, and he cherished every moment with them.
A lifelong lover of the outdoors, Jim was happiest when he was on the lake with a fishing rod in his hand. He passed on his love for fishing to his children and grandchildren, creating memories that will last forever.
Jim is survived by his beloved children: Matthew (Jennifer), Ashley (Ronald Mosley, Jr.), and Monica (William Guenther); and his treasured grandchildren: Addisyn, Jocelyn, Zoe, Paislee, Cambrie, Adelyn, Hayden, and Maverick. He is also survived by his brother, Wayne Clay and sister, Tina Clay. He was predeceased by his parents, Bill and Betty Clay, and his brother, Jackson Clay.
Jim leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and kindness, and though his physical presence will be deeply missed, his spirit will live on in the countless lives he touched.
A celebration of life will be held at the Boat House at Lake Crago Outdoor Recreational Complex on May 4, 2025 beginning at 12pm. Please join us to share memories, laughter, and honor the incredible man who brought so much light into our lives.
Rest in peace, dad, you were loved beyond words, and your legacy will live on in all of us.
