Evelyn Atencio Hurtado

December 24th, 1929 – April 17th, 2025

 

Evelyn was born in Chama Colorado on 12/24/1929. She came to Denver when she was 4 months old. She was the daughter of Fred Atencio and Rufanita (Roybal) Atencio. She entered eternal life in Denver, Colorado on 4/17/2025 at the age of 95.

Evelyn married Joe Hurtado on January 25th, 1945. She worked at Elite Cleaners, Kolby Chips, Mercy Hospital and cleaned houses. Her last job was at St. Lukes Hospital, which she retired from.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband Joe Hurtado; parents, Fred and Rufanita (Roybal) Atencio; brother Ernie Atencio and sister Dorothy (Atencio) Flores; daughter Debbie (Hurtado) Rojas; son Freddy Hurtado; son in law Barry Rojas and daughter in law Liz (Singh) Hurtado.

She is survived by her children, Jerry Hurtado, Diana (Gene) Marin and Ruth Ann Hurtado, 10 grandchildren Jerry, Michael, Brian, Gene, Evelyn, Leslie, Roman, Robyn, Stephen and Stepfanie, 17 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren, sister-in-law Adeline Chavez, Margaret Hurtado-Leos, brother-in-law Teddy (Rose) Hurtado and several nieces and nephews.

One of her favorite pass times was working outside in her yard and admiring all her flowers. She also liked to go gambling in Black Hawk. She also enjoyed shopping, always made sure her hair and nails were done and had her favorite lipstick. She liked to eat at Las Delicias and loved her margaritas. She always had her favorite CDs playing on weekend mornings in the kitchen. She loved watching the Hallmark Channel, Lifetime Movies, The Golden Girls and her favorite soap operas: One Life to Live and The Bold and the Beautiful.

Her most precious thing was her baby Toby. She loved him with all her heart. He wasn’t her dog, he was her baby.

She was very proud of her family and their accomplishments. She was deeply loved and will be missed by all her family, especially Toby.

Visitation will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, May 2, 2025 at Annunciation Catholic Church, 3621 Humbolt St. Denver, Co 80205. Followed by Recitation of the Rosary at 10:30 a.m. concluding with the celebration of Mass at 11:00 a.m. Burial to be held at Mount Olivet Cemetery, 12801 W 44th Ave Wheat Ridge, CO 80033.
