In Loving Memory of Dell J. Thompson

Dell J. Thompson, of Haines City, Florida, went to be with the Lord on April 25, 2025, at the age of 90. She was born on February 1, 1935, in Luverne, Alabama, to the late Charlie and Ida Mae Taylor Joiner. Dell’s parents made Florida their home in 1950, leaving behind their roots in Alabama. She later married the love of her life, the late Kenneth C. Thompson, in 1954, and together they raised three sons. A devoted wife and mother, Dell dedicated herself wholeheartedly to her family while also working for over 40 years with B.C. Cook & Sons, Barrington Mobile Homes, Polk County Fertilizer and finally with Robert Congdon Harvesting Citrus Company until her retirement in 1995. She was a faithful member of NorthRidge Church in Haines City, FL.

Dell loved the Lord and made it clear that Jesus was her Savior—she knew Him, trusted Him, and was ready to meet Him. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, cooking, baking, gardening, and yard work. Known for keeping a spotless home, Dell took pride in her work and her home. She was a kind, hardworking woman, friendly and welcoming to all. Her sweet spirit touched many, and she was known for never causing a problem and for her famous response: “Let me think about it”,  she never liked saying no.

The family would like to thank the staff at Astoria Living Center and Compassionate Care for their kind and attentive support. As well as a heartfelt thank you to the ladies of Inspire Women’s Ministry at NorthRidge Church for all your visits and countless cards. All are cherished.

Dell was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Ida; her husband Kenneth, who passed on April 23, 2001; and her sisters, Mildred, Pearl, Gladys, and Sally. She leaves behind to cherish her memory her three sons: Mike Thompson and wife Kaye of Haines City, FL; Mark Thompson and wife Teresa of Haines City, FL; and Wayne Thompson and wife Amy of Tallassee, AL. She is also survived by five grandchildren: Jennifer and husband Matt, Kari, Kalee, Joshua, and Caleb; and three great-grandchildren: Chase, Weston, and Beau.

A visitation will be held on Monday, April 28, 2025, from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Oak Ridge Funeral Care in Haines City, with a graveside service following at 2:00 p.m. at Forest Hill Cemetery in Haines City, Florida.
