Romero Funeral Home and Cremations - Denver
Ernie Romero
September 3rd, 1947 - April 22nd, 2025
Mr. Ernie Romero, age 77, of Denver, CO passed away Tuesday evening, April 22, 2025, surrounded by his family. He was born on September 3, 1947, in Leadville, CO, the son of the late Philip and Lucy Romero.
Ernie is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Anna and Kiki (Troy); two very-much loved grandchildren, Jordyn and Devon; one sister, Teresa; two brothers, Pete and John and many nieces and nephews. Ernie was predeceased by his brother Michael.
While growing up in the San Luis Valley of Colorado, Ernie learned to love the outdoors and all the activities that go along with living in the mountains. He was an avid fisherman throughout his life. He never stopped learning about his craft, from designing his custom rod, to tying his own flies, to reading and studying everything he could find about fly fishing. He also liked to backpack, hike, ski, read, see movies, and just jump in his car and see where the road would take him without a plan. From those local adventures he found a love of traveling that took him around the world, eventually getting to four of the seven continents. He instilled these qualities in his children, which made these adventures special times for him and his family to be able to see the world together.
Ernie was a fantastic and devoted father. Never missing a game, a school program, or any activity involving his daughters, most importantly helping them raise their babies. He was a devoted brother to his sister. They could always count on each other for support.
Most of all, Ernie loved his grandchildren. It was a rare weekend while they were growing up that he wasn't taking them somewhere to hike, visit local Colorado sights, buy books, get ice cream, shop for shoes or eat at Chili's. They were three peas in a pod, and they were all so fortunate to share that bond for life. It will be difficult to never again hear him ask for his "beautiful girl" or "baby boy."
Ernie served in the United States Army, where he was awarded a good conduct medal and was honorably discharged in 1969. He went on to work in many professions until he returned to school to get his high school diploma and an Associate's degree to become a Phlebotomist, a proud career spanning 27 years, where he developed many cherished friendships and found his professional calling.
Funeral Services will be on Wednesday June 4, 2025. Rosary at 10 am, funeral mass at 11 am, at Presentation of our Lady Catholic Church, located at 695 Julian St., Denver, Colorado 80204, followed by interment at Ft. Logan National Cemetery, located at 4400 W. Kenyon Ave., Denver, Colorado 80236. Reception to be determined.
