Mark Adrian Engelsman
February 13th, 1951 - April 14th, 2025
Tempe – Mark Adrian Engelsman, 74, passed away on April 14th, 2025 in Mesa, AZ. Mark was born on February 13th, 1951 to William H. Engelsman & Helen ‘Ginger’ Engelsman of Boulder, Colorado.
Mark grew up in the Bloomington/Normal, Illinois area and fell in love with playing the cello. His family hosted much musical talent & his father was a local college orchestra director. Mark’s talent & passion would bring him to Arizona in 1969 and studied cello performance at Arizona State University. ASU cello professor, Takayori Atsumi, guided Mark through his undergraduate and graduate degree program in cello performance. They maintained a professional relationship for an additional 30+ years.
During Mark’s time at ASU’s school of music, his life would be forever changed by being paired with a piano major named Deborah (Debbie). The two would graduate, marry, start careers, and a family. In 1972 Mark was accepted into the Phoenix Symphony where he played cello into the 1980’s. In the 2000’s Mark would play in The Chandler Symphony, The Symphony of the Southwest, as well as other festivals and concertos.
After the birth their daughter, Cynthia and son, Chris, Mark transitioned into a career real estate. Mark learned the ropes of residential real estate in the 1980’s would end up working with Realty Executives for 30 years. Some of the latter years were with his son Chris.
As a father, Mark is remembered for his passion, guidance, support and spirit. His faith guided him through life’s challenges and blessings. He was a caring animal lover and supported local dog shelters. He is survived by his daughter Cynthia (Michael) Miller, son Christopher (Margaret) Engelsman, ex-wife Deborah Engelsman, 3 grandchildren, and step-sister Jan Hoblit.
Celebration of life will be held Saturday, May 17th at 10:00am at King of Glory Lutheran Church, 2085 E Southern Ave, Tempe, AZ 85282.
