Sue Carter Thompson Hughes, 81, passed away peacefully May 15, 2025, at Lynchburg Hospital. Beloved wife of the late Pleasant Nance Hughes, Sue was born August 14,1943 in Lynchburg, VA, to Thomas Daniel Thompson, Jr., and Cathleen C. Glass Thompson. In addition to her husband and parents, Sue was predeceased by her brother, Thomas Daniel Thompson III, and grandson Elijah M. Aschbrenner. She was a graduate of East Tennessee State University and a member of St. Andrew Presbyterian Church. She is survived by sons William Thomas Hughes and wife, Becky, of Concord, NC, and Pleasant Carter Hughes and wife, Patrice, of McLean, VA; four grandchildren, Lauren V. Hughes Ebeling and husband, Matt, of Huntersville, NC, Noah L. Hughes, Justin T. Hughes and Samuel M. Aschbrenner, of Concord, NC; three sisters, Virginia Gail Thompson Turner of Mechanicsville, VA, Nancy Glass Thompson Edwards of Altavista, VA, Mary Cathleen Thompson Hughes and husband, Richard, of Lebanon, VA; two brothers-in-law, Calvin DeVese Hughes and wife, Helene, of Lynchburg, VA, and Hobart B. Hughes of Lake Wylie, SC; and 13 nieces and nephews. Family will receive visitors at Diuguid Funeral Services, 21914 Timberlake Road, Friday, May 23, 6-8 p.m. The funeral service will take place Saturday, May 24 at 11 a.m., officiated by Pastor David Roberts, St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, 21206 Timberlake Road, followed by burial at Spring Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Prayers for Elijah Foundation, which is dedicated to pediatric cancer research, P.O. Box 5011, Concord, NC, 28027, or online at prayersforelijah.com, or to St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, sapclynchburg.org
