Helen Scharp
March 29th, 1927 - May 15th, 2025
In Loving Memory of Helen L. Scharp
Helen Scharp, 98, of Winter Haven, Florida, went to be with the Lord on May 15, 2025. She was born on March 29, 1927, in Paulding County, Ohio, to the late Floyd E. and Edna Johnson Stutzman. Helen dedicated over 40 years of her life to caring for others as a Registered Nurse, most notably with Doehler Jarvis in Ohio. She retired in 1988 and relocated to Florida that same year from Sylvania, Ohio. Helen was a devoted member of Beymer United Methodist Church in Winter Haven.
Helen lived a joyful and fulfilled life. She loved sewing, attending family gatherings, and spending time with her friends. Traveling brought her great joy, especially trips to Anna Maria Island—her favorite destination—and the Smoky Mountains. She found peace and enjoyment in her water exercise classes and cherished her time at church and family retreats. Helen was known for her gentle and caring spirit, her calm and relaxed demeanor, and her genuine interest in others. She always had a smile to share and was quick to ask how everyone was doing.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Edna; her beloved husband, Frederick Scharp, whom she married in 1949; and her siblings, Robert Stutzman, Charles Stutzman, Kenneth Stutzman, Ramona Snyder, and Beulah Beach. Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Diane E. Kowalski and husband, John of Lakeland, FL; her sons, Douglas F. Scharp and wife, Judy of Findlay, OH, and Bradley R. Scharp and wife, Felice Kapfhamer-Scharp of Largo, FL. Helen is also survived by four grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
A celebration of Helen’s life will be held on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at 12:00 PM at Oak Ridge Funeral Care in Haines City. The family will receive friends beginning at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Good Shepherd Hospice , or to Beymer United Methodist Church.
