Celebrating the Life of John Holbrook English

This document serves as a heartfelt tribute to the life and legacy of John Holbrook English, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. ​ Born in Fargo, North Dakota on July 14, 1945.  John lived a life filled with love, dedication, and cherished memories. From his service as an officer in the Army National Guard to his successful career as a partner and owner of Retail Systems, John exemplified hard work and commitment.

He was a man of many names—John, Johnnie, Daddy, Brother, Big John, Grandpa, and Papa—each reflecting the deep connections he shared with those around him. ​ His love for the outdoors, especially spending time in the dove field with family and friends, showcased his passion for life and the people he held dear. ​He enjoyed his time with the members of the Tip Club that went beyond just business relationships but many long-term friendships.

 

John’s passing on May 20, 2025, leaves a void in the hearts of many, but his memory will live on through the stories, laughter, and love he shared. ​ As we gather to honor his life, we remember him not only for his accomplishments but for the joy and warmth he brought to everyone he met.

This document outlines the details of John’s life, his family, and the arrangements for his memorial service, ensuring his legacy is celebrated and remembered with the respect and love he so greatly deserves.

 

He was predeceased by his mother, Betty English Pond. Surviving in addition to his wife, Tez English, are his son’s Beau English (Lexington, SC) and his wife Suzanne. Matt English (Lexington, SC) and his wife Katie.  Daughter Arland Blackburn (Loris, SC) and her husband Richard. ​Sister Patty English Mallory (Warner Robins, GA) and her husband Victor.​ Brother Russel Allison (Columbia, SC) and his wife Donna. Granddaughter Greyson Brown (Gilbert, SC) and her husband Cordell. ​Grandson Brooks English (Columbia, SC). Granddaughter Bella Blackburn (Loris, SC).  Granddaughter Delanie English (Columbia, SC). Granddaughter Quinn English (Columbia, SC).  Grandson Riland Blackburn (Loris, SC).

 

Visitation will be at Thompson Funeral Home near Greenlawn Memorial Park, Tuesday, May 27, 2025 at 1:00 PM (845 Leesburg Road Columbia, South Carolina 29209).

 

Service will begin at 2:00 PM following the visitation at Thompson Funeral Home near Greenlawn Memorial Park. After the service there will be a graveside service at Greenlawn Cemetery.

 

Pallbearers: Beau English, Matt English, Richard Blackburn, Amir Sheikh, Brooks English, Lynn Burkholder, Mike Moore and Riland Blackburn.
