Edward Ruhnke
October 14, 1953 - May 30, 2025
Ed Ruhnke, age 71, passed away May 30th, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, patience, and humor.
A man who found joy in life’s simplest pleasures, Ed was most at peace when he was casting a line in the water, skiing the slopes, or spending time at the cabin on Round Lake. His true happiness came from being surrounded by the people he loved most. His circle of friends was unbelievable and a huge part of his life. There wasn’t a person he met he didn't make a friend of.
Ed shared a wonderful life with his wife of almost 49 years. She was his partner in countless adventures, including treasured trips to Canada. Together, they built a home filled with love, laughter, and the kind of warmth only Ed could bring. A talented builder and craftsman, Ed had a special gift for turning dreams into reality, always ready to construct the next fun project.
Family was the center of Ed’s world. His wife, two daughters, their families and all “his dogs” were his pride and joy. His four grandchildren brought light to his life and he cherished every moment spent with them. They loved their Papa, so much. We all loved him, so much.
Those who knew Ed will remember his kind-heart, endless patience, and willingness to lend a helping hand. Whether it was offering advice, fixing something broken, or simply being present, Ed gave of himself freely and without hesitation.
Instead of flowers, the family asks that you honor Ed’s memory by sharing a favorite story, or helping someone in need—just as Ed would have. We were all lucky to have had him in ours lives. Lets all try to be supportive to each other and spread the joy he so easily gave to everyone.
Survived by his wife, Deb; daughters, Melinda (Garret) Cogswell and Allison (Ted) Jerde; grandchildren, Brynn & Vaunn Jerde and Nala & Morris Cogswell; sisters, Sandie Palkowski, Sheri Ruhnke, Shelly Ruhnke and their families. Ed is also survived by many other relatives and many friends.
Visitation will be from 2pm -3pm on Saturday, June 7th, 2025 at Atkins-Northland Funeral Home, Cloquet. The service will begin at 3pm with a reception to follow.
