Lawrene "Larry" Thomas Murphy
August 27th, 1945 - June 3rd, 2025
The sun will still come up tomorrow ~ Larry Murphy
Former Lexington, Michigan, resident Larry Murphy, age 79, passed away on June 3, 2025, in Venice, Florida. He was surrounded by loved ones and cared for deeply throughout his final days.
Larry and his wife of 51 years, Irene, retired to Florida in 2010 after raising their family in Michigan and building a life rooted in community and connection. After Irene’s passing in 2020, Larry was blessed to meet Ellen Curtiss, who brought love and companionship back into his life. Together, they traveled the world, visited family and friends, and created new memories we will always cherish.
Larry was a family man, a storyteller, and a natural problem solver. He never hesitated to jump in to help those around him with a tool, a joke, or advice, sometimes even when not requested. He had a deep sense of loyalty to those he loved and believed in hard work, kindness, and doing the right thing even when no one was watching. He took the time to teach and share what he knew and he was always prepared to tell you what you didn’t know. He was loved for both his knowledge and his willingness to share it.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Aldine Murphy; his sisters, Joann and Judy; and his youngest brother, Bob.
Larry is survived by his brother, Tom (Mary); his daughter Shelley and her husband Dan Goth, and their daughter Abbie; his son Rob and his wife Julie, and their three daughters, Jackie, Christina, and Danielle; and three great-grandchildren, Alex, Madeline, and Niko. He is also lovingly remembered by Ellen and her family, as well as many extended family members and lifelong friends who miss him dearly.
A Murphy-style summer celebration of life will be held in Michigan to honor both Larry and Irene. We look forward to gathering with family and friends to share stories, raise a toast, and celebrate the lives and legacy of two people who brought so much love into the world.
