David Lee Sims
September 2nd, 1945 - May 14th, 2025
David "Dave" Lee Sims, age 79, of Palm Bay, Florida, passed away on Wednesday, May 14, 2025 at Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne, Florida.
Born on September 2, 1945 in Indianapolis, Indiana, Dave was the beloved son of Howard and Gladys Sims. He attended Minnetonka High School and graduated in 1963 before serving his country with honor in the United States Army from 1965 to 1968, including a tour in Vietnam.
Dave is survived by his loving wife, Lois, of Palm Bay; his children, Randall Sims (Renee) of Staunton, VA, Steven Sims (Alaina) of Homosassa, FL, Jennifer Rickards (William) of Palm Bay, and Sean Wickey (Kristin) of Cumming, GA. He is also survived by his sister, Irene Westlock (Robert) of Broken Arrow, OK, and his brother, Ed Sims (Jane) of Mission, TX, along with many cherished nieces and nephews.
His greatest joy and passion was his family, including his twelve beloved grandchildren: Ren Sims, Isaac Sims (Aysa), Demi Sims, Avey Sims, Meg Sims, Tyler Guise, Jackson Wickey, Reagan Wickey, Kennedy Wickey, Truman Wickey, Lincoln Wickey, and Carter Wickey. Watching them grow and thrive brought him joy.
Dave loved the outdoors, especially fishing and boating, until his health no longer allowed it. He had a lifelong passion for sports, enjoying hockey and football, and cheering for his favorite teams—the Minnesota Vikings, Indianapolis Colts, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Dave also had a passion for photography, capturing moments on film until the rise of digital technology.
In his later years, he found camaraderie in reminiscing and sharing stores with fellow veterans. Despite the hardships he faced, Dave was proud of his service to his country. His time in the Army shaped his resilience, and he valued the bonds forged through shared experiences.
His stories, humor, and unwavering spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
His legacy of love, laughter, and devotion to family and country will forever be cherished.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Ammen Family Funeral Home in Melbourne, FL on July 12, 2025 between 2:00 and 4:00 PM.
In lieu of Flowers the family has requested a donation to St. Jude Research Hospital in his name.
