Michael Louis Theis
December 15th, 1960 - June 6th, 2025
In loving memory of Michael Louis Theis, December 15, 1960 – June 6, 2025
It is with much love that we mourn the passing of Michael Theis, as well as celebrate the beautiful life of a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. Michael peacefully passed with his wife by his side on June 6th at the age of 64 after battling cancer for 12 years.
Michael spent his life devoted to his family, his work and his craftmanship as a bow hunter. He was married to his love Sonya, celebrating 22 years together. He is survived by and was a proud father to Ryan, Sarah, Megan, Stacy and Trent. He was a devoted grandfather to Maryah, Ryker, Penelope, Simon, Grey, Harlo, Te’Hiva, Auhea and Sianava. He is also survived by his sister Jean (John) Steele and many nieces, nephews and extended family. He was preceded in death by his father LeRoy Theis and mother Judine (Statz) Wood.
Michael was a passionate advocate for nature preservation and upholding the values of ethical hunting. He was actively involved in several organizations that reflected this vision, including the Wisconsin Traditional Archers, the Professional Bowhunters Society and the Aldo Leopold Society. One of Michael’s most meaningful contributions was his commitment to fostering the future of traditional archery. Through a dedicated annual donation program, he ensured that future generations could continue to participate in and appreciate the tradition he so deeply valued.
Michael was known for his love of the mountains and the outdoors and had such integrity in everything he did. He was a mentor to many, an incredible father, a skilled craftsman of traditional bows and avid outdoorsman who had a spiritual connection to nature and animals. He was a watcher with a very calculated eye that could catch every move. He was beyond generous to everyone he met and was courageous during his entire battle against cancer.
Michael graduated with a BA in Accounting and Business Administration from Lakeland College and worked at various administrative positions over the course of 35 years. He retired at 54, after twenty years, from his position as Vice President of a local canning company in Lodi, Wisconsin.
A celebration of Michael’s life will be held on June 23rd, 2025. Visitation will be held at Nitardy Funeral Home in Fort Atkinson from 11-1pm followed by a Celebration of Life held at Hammerson’s Pond Warming Shelter in Fort Atkinson from 1:30-4:30pm. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks for donations to be made to the UW Madison Carbone Cancer Center and Agrace Hospice, in his honor. Other donations will be sent to support the Traditional Archery Organizations.
Though he is no longer with us, Michael’s spirit will live on in the hearts of all who loved him.

We Entrusted Michael Theis's Care To
Nitardy Funeral Homes - Fort Atkinson
We have proudly served the Southern Wisconsin community for over 90 years, when Hilmar A. Nitardy opened his first funeral home in the area. In 1984, his son Russ knew it was time to offer professional, compassionate services to the Fort Atkinson community, and we constructed a new funeral home to address its needs. We feel so fortunate to be a part of the community, and have grown our family alongside the community for three generations....
