Jayson Reed Cooke
March 26th, 2008 - June 8th, 2025
In Loving Memory
With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Jayson Reed Cooke, who departed this life on June 8, 2025, at the age of 17. Born on March 26, 2008, Jayson was the beloved son of Regina Reed and Carrol “Jay” Cooke Jr.
A proud student at Richland Northeast High School, Jayson was a rising senior in the Class of 2026. He was known for his big personality, infectious smile, and ability to light up any room he entered.
Jayson had a deep love for music, a passion for fashion trends, and was an avid sneaker collector. A dedicated Call of Duty gamer, he also explored culinary arts in his younger years. Ambitious and hardworking, Jayson dreamed of becoming a real estate entrepreneur. Despite growing up in a Clemson household, he remained a devoted fan of the Carolina Gamecocks.
He was also proud to be a part of the Big Homie Lil Homie Mentoring Program, where he connected with others through leadership and service. He was a hard worker and was determined to begin his career through working as a home repair apprentice, doing maintenance at Jamil Temple, and even starting a small lawn care business of his own.
Jayson is survived by his loving parents, Regina Reed and Carrol “Jay” Cooke Jr; grandmother, Beverly Reed-Dutille; extended grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. McKelvin; nephew, Alexander; niece Kinsley; a circle of lifelong friends, Silas, Owen, Jayden, Dante, Jared, Tito, and Darien; and a host of cherished aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
He is preceded in death by his sister, Alexis Caterra Reed Pantonial; great-grandparents, William Walter Reed and Jessie Ruth Reed; grandparents Carrol Cooke Sr., Grace L. Cooke, and Robert “Bob” Dutille.
In celebration of Jayson’s life and vibrant spirit, the family requests that attendees wear red, black, or attire featuring red roses to honor his memory.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Moms Demand Action – South Carolina, a cause close to the family’s heart.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, June 20 at 3pm at Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park 845 Leesburg Road Columbia SC 29209. A visitation will be held two hours prior.
