Memorial

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a remarkable woman, whose love, strength, and kindness touched many lives. Joan Platt, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend passed away peacefully on June 13, 2025, at the age of 96.

Born on November 13, 1928, in Hibbing, MN Joan grew up with a desire for travel and adventure. She spent her early career in Europe, later returning to St. Paul, MN where she worked and raised her family. From an early age, her generosity and resilience became a cornerstone of her character, a beacon that would guide her throughout her journey.

Joan is survived by daughter Leslie Callahan (Terry Callahan) and son David Platt (Anne Platt), grandchildren Emily Meyers (Matt Meyers), Taylor Walsh (Thomas Walsh), Alex Platt, River Platt, great grandsons Thomas Michael Walsh and James Millikan Walsh and her sister Joel Betz along with nieces and nephews and the friends that remain who will forever hold her memory close, carrying forward her spirit of generosity, and resilience. She is preceded in death by parents Sverre and Ruth Omtvedt, sisters, Jean Bedard Shrawder, Judy Rapinac and son John Calbert.

A celebration of her life will be held at 11AM Thursday, June 26 at Willwerscheid Funeral Home, 1167 Grand Ave. Saint Paul, MN 55105.  There will be a visitation one hour prior to the service at the funeral home where family and friends will gather to honor her life. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the ASPCA, reflecting Joan’s love of animals. Special thanks to the staff at Inver Glen Senior Living and St. Croix Hospice for their loving care and support.

Though Joan no longer walks among us, her spirit will continue to shine a light for the lives she touched. In our hearts, she will live on as a reminder that kindness and courage can truly change the world.

Rest in peace, Joan. You will be deeply missed and forever remembered with love.
