Christi Barfield

Christi Pensivy Barfield was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Edward Francis Pensivy and Josephine Easterling Pensivy Duckworth on May 27, 1961. She was a proud graduate of Clemson University. While attending Clemson, Christi met the love of her life, James W. Barfield Jr. They were married on June 7, 1984.  

Together, Christi and James raised two sons, James W. Barfield III and Joshua Barfield. As a family, they lived in South Carolina, Rhode Island, and Florida. Christi’s sons later married Vanessa Barfield and Gina Barfield, and Christi was blessed with seven grandchildren: Aidan, Summer, Laynie, Joshua, Madison, Isaac, and one more on the way. Christi loved her family deeply and leaves behind a legacy as a godly wife, mother, and grandmother. 

She was a long-time and faithful member of Faith Baptist Church in Winter Haven, Florida. Christi found great joy in serving God and others through various ministries at the church. She welcomed many with warmth while serving in the Café, cared for little ones in the nursery, and ministered to women facing difficult seasons of life. Christi had a servant’s heart and a passion for helping and encouraging others.  

Christi’s favorite past times included: crochet, reading, board games and all things children (dance, baseball, softball, lacrosse, football, soccer, etc.). Christi loved every activity that her grandchildren participated in and was passionate about attending their activities and games. She was a world class encourager.

She was preceded in death by her father, Edward Pensivy. She is survived by her mother, Josephine Pensivy Duckworth; sister Kim Sebring (Michael), two nieces (Kerstin and Kendal), her devoted husband, James W. Barfield Jr.; her sons, James III (Vanessa) and Joshua (Gina); and her seven cherished grandchildren: Aidan, Summer, Laynie, Joshua, Madison, Isaac, and one more on the way.  

Christi went home to be with her Lord and Savior on June 17, 2025, at the age of 64.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 28, at 10:00 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m., at Faith Baptist Church, located at 2140 Crystal Beach Road, Winter Haven, FL 33880.  

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Faith Baptist Church in Christi’s memory.
