Her husband, Stanley Tayson predeceased her, passing in 1995.

She is survived by her children, Sherry (Jim) Spencer, Terry (Jeff) Adrian, Cari (Scott) Frederick and Greg (Lily) Tayson. She leaves behind nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers, Donald Steffen, Delbert Steffen, Frank Steffen and her sister Freda Richardson, and numerous nieces and nephews. Her brother Dale Steffen predeceased her.

Dorothy lived her life with joy, always having a smile on her face. She loved crafts, especially making cards for all she loved, but she also painted ceramics, crocheted and knitted. In her later years her biggest joy was spending time with family and visiting with her siblings, which conversations could last for hours at a time.

Dorothy was a lifelong Christian which is a comfort to those she leaves behind.
