It is with heavy hearts but joyful memories that we announce the passing of Fred H. Williamson (Lt. Col. Retired/USAF).  Fred passed away on Sunday, June 22, 2025, at his home in Venice, Florida.

Born in Washington, DC, Fred graduated from Northwestern High School, Class of 1957.  He obtained both undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Maryland, College Park.  Fred was commissioned in the U. Air Force and during his 20 years of service, he served during the Vietnam War and other assignments, such as Japan and the Air Force Academy where he taught history.  His decorations include the Legion of Merit, Vietnam Service medal with 3 Bronze Stars, Air Force Presidential Unit Citation, and various other personal and unit awards.

Upon retiring from the military, Fred worked at Eastman Kodak as Director, Field Offices from 1983-1998.  Fred tried to retire again but was selected by the Governor of Virginia to serve in his cabinet as Deputy Secretary of Technology from 1998-2001. At the conclusion of the Governor’s term, Fred served as Vice President for Workforce Development at Reynolds Community College.  He finally retired to play golf, travel, and enjoy life with his beloved wife in Venice, Florida.  Over the years, Fred loved to refinish furniture, and as an historian, he was an avid reader.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents Claire and Fred H. Williamson, Sr.   Fred is survived by his devoted wife, Joanna; a daughter, Anne-Marie Gallant (David); a son, John F. Williamson; stepdaughter, Leann Gray (Jeff); stepson, CDR Rod Hanks (Alissa); his sister, Carol Berger (Bill) and a host of combined family whom he loved dearly.
