Rest in peace beloved and may God bless your soul. You will be sorely missed
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our cherished James V. Whelan on June 19, 2025, of Palm Bay, Florida. Jim, age 77, was born in Milton, Massachusetts, on June 16, 1948.
Jim worked for various computer companies as a software engineer, and was self-taught in programming and other aspects of computers. He met his wife of 32 years while both were working at Wang Laboratories in Lowell, MA. They moved to Florida from Northwood, NH, in 2003, at which time he became a yacht salesman and sold boats over the internet until retiring in 2014. He was a boater and a fisherman, and he especially enjoyed surf fishing.
He had a wonderful sense of humor, and his laughter and sharp wit made him the life of the party. He entertained his friends for hours with his stories and dry sense of humor. He was always the first to arrive at a party and the last to leave.
Loving animals and nature, and having a generous heart, he gave a home to many cats throughout his lifetime, and to his sweet Jack Russell Terrier named Murphy. Like his mother, he had a keen interest in birds, and could identify them by sight and their call.
Jim was a devoted fan of the New England Patriots, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He declined invitations to watch the Super Bowl with the guys, and instead made it a tradition to watch it every year at home with his wife who also loves football. He was an avid Red Sox fan, and enjoyed going to Fenway Park with his dad when he was a young boy. He was a founding member of a fantasy baseball league (the NoName Rotisserie League), established when he lived in New England. That league is still going today. He enjoyed playing golf for many years and was quite good at the game. He never took it too seriously, but relished his good shots and laughed at the poor ones.
Jim is deeply mourned by his devoted wife Willo; siblings Susan Nelson of Lancaster, PA; Kevin (Millie) Whelan of Canterbury, NH; Janet Churchill of Groveland, FL; and David Whelan of Vero Beach, FL; his niece and Goddaughter Lisa Baker, nephews Erik Nelson, Scott Littlefield, John Littlefield, David Denty, David Whelan, and Denim Whelan; and step-daughter Dawn Craig. He was preceded in death by his parents Ruth May Scherber and James V. Whelan, sister Evelyn Denty, and nieces Beth Littlefield and Brenda Deshaise.
Rest in peace beloved and may God bless your soul. You will be sorely missed
