John W. “SCAT” Zalesky, Jr. was born on September 9, 1943 in Northampton, MA and passed away in Venice, Florida on July 1, 2025 at the age of 81.  He was a policeman for the LA.P.D. for 27 years and retired after 31 years of service with the Dept.

 

John was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp and member of the American Legion, Fraternal Order of Eagles, ELKS, V.F.W., D.A.V., Moose Lodge, Marine Corp League and AMVETS.

He is survived by his wife, Carole Zalesky; a son, John Zalesky, III; a grandson, John Zalesky, IV and his sister, Lucille Straub. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary & John Zalesky; his daughter, Kristi Zalesky and his sister, Marie Young.

 

A viewing will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Venice on Thursday, July 10, 2025 from 10:00AM-11:00AM with the Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11:00AM.  Committal service with military honors will follow at Sarasota National Cemetery at 1:30PM.
