Lori L. Merwin
January 10,1959 – July 13, 2025
Seaside, CA
Sweet Lori passed away peacefully after a courageous 3-year battle with cancer with her husband by her side. Lori was born in Wausau, Wisconsin to Adeline and Archie Roy Merwin where she spent her early years. She graduated in the top 10 of her High School class and then moved on to the University of Wisconsin Madison completing a degree in economics. Although she would leave Wisconsin in the early 80’s to join her sister in California, Wisconsin never left her soul. Lori was a fervent Badger and Packer fan who could only watch a game if her teams had a huge lead. Being very superstitious, watching a game usually included a couple of clothing changes to turn a game around.
Lori excelled at every job she had. She worked for AT&T for 26 years in many capacities, always providing great customer service. Her attention to detail served her well, especially in her job as an accountant for the city of Seaside where she worked for 8 years.
Lori really enjoyed her arts and crafts hobbies from making counted cross stich Christmas stockings to Christmas decorations. Her amazing Halloween pumpkin carvings brought crowds to view them every Halloween. She loved entertaining, always the gracious host, making homemade small bite appetizers and specialty drinks. No one ever left a dinner or cocktail party hungry when Lori was in charge. Music was a big part of her life; she played the piano in her early years and loved to attend live concerts. She always had the radio on listening to her favorite 70’s and 80’s music, she was especially fond of disco. No one could beat her in a “name that tune” contest. She usually knew the song in 2 or 3 notes.
Lori and her husband Robert were fortunate to join her brother Ralph on a couple of cruises, one to Mexico and one to the Caribbean. She always set aside a few weeks to visit her mother back in Wisconsin yearly. She really enjoyed spending time up in Arnold with her husband and 4-legged son Cosmo. She was always at peace when up north in Wisconsin or in Arnold.
Lori is survived by Robert Calcagno her husband/partner of 26 years; siblings Ralph (Heidi) Merwin, and JoAnne Hugunin; sisters and brother in laws too numerous to list; nephews Sean Hugunin and Paul Merwin, and niece Nicole Hugunin.
My sweet Lori. You made me a better person; you were the best thing that ever happened to me. I love you so much and will miss you dearly.
Your husband Robert
I would like to express my thanks and gratitude to Dr. Nancy Rubin and the staff for their compassionate and excellent care. I cannot thank enough, Lori’s caregivers Inez Ferrel, and Sandra Saldana Rodriguez for their kind and gentle care. I could not have gotten thru the last week of hospice care without them.
