Rustburg, Virginia – Edward L. Tyree, Sr., 83, of Rustburg, VA, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, July 26, 2025.
Born on June 5, 1942, in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of the late John A. and Florence Tyree.
Ed is survived by his faithful wife of 59 years, Lois Tyree; his son, Edward L. Tyree, Jr. of Rustburg; and his daughter, Kim (Tommy) Wall of Rustburg. Edward is further survived by brother-in-law, Fred Gunter, nephew, Mark Gunter and niece, Pam Gunter. He was a proud grandfather to Morgan (Caleb) Hall, Brennan Tyree, Ethan Tyree, and great-granddaughter Téa Hall. He was preceded in death by his brother, Donald Tyree, and an infant great-grandson.
A proud veteran, Ed served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War aboard the USS Harry E. Hubbard Destroyer. After receiving an honorable discharge, he returned home and joined his father in the amusement business. He later became the owner and operator of Ed’s Amusement Company, serving Rustburg and the surrounding areas for over 30 years. In addition to his business, Ed served on the Board of Directors of Amusement and Music Operators of Virginia for several years.
Ed was a member of Gospel Light Baptist Church. His hobbies included working on vintage jukeboxes, pinball machines, covering pool table rails, watching old Western movies, decorating elaborately for Christmas with candles in the windows trimmed with red ribbons, grilling and cooking, carving the holiday turkey, taking pictures, growing a garden, and meticulously mowing the lawn with his John Deere tractor. He also had a deep love for cars.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to family, friends, neighbors, Gospel Light Baptist Church family, Taylor Wooldridge, Centra Hospice, We Honor Veterans, American Legion Post 16, Alan B. Pearson Regional Cancer Center, Campbell County Rescue Squad located in Rustburg, and Linda Randolph, CNA, for their care and support.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at Diuguid Funeral Service & Crematory, 21914 Timberlake Rd. Lynchburg, VA 24502. Relatives and friends are welcome from 11:00 am until the time of service. Burial will be in Fort Hill Memorial Park with Military Honors.
Memorial contributions may be made to Campbell County Rescue Squad located in Rustburg
