Betty Baker
November 10th, 1950 - July 23rd, 2025
Our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Betty Baker, 74, went to be with our Lord and Savior in heaven on July 23, 2025, joining her mother, Johnnie Pearl Johnson, and her father, Robert Lee Johnson.
Betty was comforted at her bedside by her loving family and care team in Gilbert, Arizona. A private memorial celebration service will be held in Gilbert, Arizona, in
November, and she will be laid to rest next to her beloved mother in the state of Illinois.
Betty loved her parents deeply—just as she loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild.
Betty was a humble woman who helped everyone she encountered. She spoke softly, always wore a warm smile, and radiated life and positivity.
Bible says, “Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.” — Matthew 5:5. Betty was truly meek in spirit.
She was a praying woman who sought refuge in the Lord daily. Naturally, she gravitated toward a career in nursing. Betty loved to learn and was as beautiful inside as she was outside—so much so that she was once scouted by Brabazon Modeling Agency.
Betty also sang in the church choir with such joy and enthusiasm that she often had the congregation on their feet. Her favorite solo was the gospel classic “Jesus Can Work It Out.”
Other gospel songs that inspired her and filled our home include:
“Goin’ Up Yonder”
“Lord Help Me to Hold Out”
“God Has Smiled on Me”
“Peace Be Still”
“Can’t Nobody Do Me Like Jesus”
These songs were a source of strength and joy in her life.
Betty was a strong woman of faith and a loving mother until the very end. Every Sunday, she made the best biscuits from scratch for the church breakfast and made sure we attended Sunday school.
My mother always told me to take care of myself and live life to the fullest—Ecclesiastes 11:9 and John 10:10.
My beloved mother, Betty, is survived by her:
Children: Donna, and Darrin (Sheila)
Grandchildren: Dawn (Randy), Behnjamin (Benji), and Donabehn (Donny)
Great-grandchild: Mauricio (Roy)
Brother: Gerald C. Samuel, her only sibling
She dedicated her life to being a mother, wife, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and she will truly be missed. She gave of herself unselfishly and sacrificially in caring for her family and others.
The love and memories of Betty—my Momma—will forever have a permanent place in my heart…
Until we meet again.
