Wilhelm's Portland Memorial Funeral Home
Thomas James O'Shaughnessy
August 25th, 1947 - August 1st, 2025
Thomas James O’Shaughnessy, age 77, was welcomed into the arms of God on August 1, 2025 while surrounded by the love of his family.
Tom, the oldest of six children, was born August 25, 1947 to Sam and Alice. He was raised in the Brooklyn neighborhood of Portland, where he and his family attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Tom attended Sacred Heart Catholic School, followed by Central Catholic High before transferring to Cleveland High for the remainder of his education. He joined the US Marine Corps after graduating from Cleveland High in 1965. After his service with the Marines, Tom went to work for the City of Portland’s Bureau of Maintenance. He excelled in this role and was presented with the Safety Leadership Award by the Mayor of Portland.
Tom met the love of his life, Jeanette in the mid-1990’s at a country club, quickly becoming inseparable. They married in August of 1997 and spent 28 wonderful years together traveling and enjoying each other’s company. It was very rare to ever see them apart.
As the oldest sibling of six, Tom was a quiet leader, a brother that all of his younger siblings knew they could count on. He held a special bond with each of his brothers and sisters. He was always there, be it as a confidant, to celebrate life’s wins or provide support through the lows.
Tom showed quiet strength and his big heart every day of his life, always taking care of those he loved. To know Tom was to love him and he will be greatly missed by all, especially his wife Jeanette, his brothers; Denny and John, his sisters; Maureen and Kathy, as well as his many nieces and nephews. His family finds comfort in knowing Tom is met at the gates of Heaven by his parents Sam and Alice, his sister Mary and his nephew Will.

Wilhelm's Portland Memorial Funeral Home
At Wilhelm's Portland Memorial, we have a rich history dating back to 1901 when we became the first crematory west of the Mississippi River, known then as The Portland Cremation Association. Our historic chapel, marked by its cornerstone placed on February 5th, 1901, has stood the test of time. Today, our memorial site spans 8 stories, approximately 7 miles of corridors of beautifully preserved architecture, and the largest mausoleum on the west coast, spanning 2.5 city blocks....
