Garland "Ray" Ballowe
August 7th, 1948 - August 10th, 2025
Garland Ray Ballowe, 77, of Lynchburg, passed away Sunday, August 10, 2025, at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital.
Born August 7, 1948, in Lynchburg, he was a son of the late Norman Eugene Ballowe and Katherine Dorothy Johnson Ballowe.
He was a former member of Inglewood Baptist Church and a retired police officer after 32 years of service with Lynchburg Police Department, during which time he was a member of the original Tactical Squad. Ray enjoyed gun collecting and hunting big game. He honorably served our country in the United State Army during the Vietnam War and receiving two purple hearts among many other ribbons of service.
He is survived by his daughter, Kiristy Ballowe-Pursel and her husband, Art, of Gladys and his son Raymond Heath Ballowe and his partner Sean Wood of Amherst; one brother, Norman E. Ballowe, Jr. and his wife Vickie Hensley and one sister, Gloria Ramsey; four grandchildren, Caleb Deblock, Erika Deblock, Alexis DeBlock, Breanna DeBlock; six step- grandchildren, Lex Johnson, Danielle Meadow, Jessica Pursel, Connor Pursel, Colton Pursel and Cooper Pursel and host of friends. He is also survived by his former wife and special friend, Debi Ballowe.
The family will receive friends Monday, August 18, 2025 from 12 noon to 12:45 pm at Diuguid Waterlick Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM with Pastor Steven Willis officiating. Interment will be in Fort Hill Memorial Park where the Lynchburg Police Departments Honor Guard will provide final honors.
