John Hughes Hanny
September 6th, 1929 - May 21st, 2020
John Hughes Hanny Jr. (Jack) passed away peacefully on May 21, 2020 with his family by his side at the Visions Assisted Living of Mesa Arizona. Jack was born in Phoenix Arizona on September 6, 1929, attended Phoenix Union High School and Arizona State College at Tempe now Arizona State University. After completing Officer Candidate School at Fort Belvoir, VA, Jack would go on to serve as a Second Lieutenant with the 801st Engineer Aviation Battalion, Special Category Army Personnel with Air Force (SCARWAF) building airfields in England during the Korean War. After military service, Jack worked for the U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey before entering a career in the insurance industry with Arizona Fire Rating Bureau, The Royal Globe Insurance Company and many years self-employed as an independent insurance appraiser until retiring to Prescott, Arizona with his wife Janet. Jack was an avid student of history and had volunteered and enjoyed working with the Northern Arizona Genealogical Society and Sons of the American Revolution. Jack had a passion for Ham Radio, holding an Advanced license and was active for many years with the American Radio Relay League (AARL) and the Military Auxiliary Radio System (MARS). Jack was preceded in death by his loving wife Janet Lynn Hanny and is survived by his five children: Christine Will, Vic Hanny and wife Pam, Catherine Parker and husband Steve, Elizabeth Schiller and husband Cliff (Waya), Kimball Hanny and wife Susan, Ten grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren and his brother Dr. Thomas Tate and wife Sue Ann. A private service with family will occur at the Prescott National Cemetery at a future date. Special thanks to Visions Assisted Living of Mesa and Aegis Hospice for the loving care they gave.
