James Vaughn Barentine
March 7th, 1942 - August 20th, 2020
Mr. James Vaughn Barentine passed away August 20, 2020 in Mesa, AZ. He was born March 7, 1942 in Westwood, CA. He served as an E4 in the 2nd Armored Division as a “tanker” in the U.S. Army and was a disabled veteran. He played in the 2nd Armored Division Marching Band and BYU marching band. He was a patriot who served his country as a pioneer of the first supercomputers which he implemented at the NORAD mountain facility in CO in the early 1970’s. He was musically gifted, sang and played clarinet in many bands and genres including Dixieland, jazz/swing, a German oompah band and considered the hymns, “Just A Closer Walk With Thee”, “In The Garden” and “I Am A Child Of God” spiritually and personally defining. He was a wrestler, thespian, class clown, writer and avid movie aficionado. He was predeceased by his older sister, Carol Rose Barentine, his mother Rose Anna Hearron Barentine and father, James Okal Barentine. He is survived by his three children, Shawna Barentine Mooneyhan (daughter), James Kregg Barentine (son), Kyle Dayne Barentine (son), his brother Gary Wayne Barentine and sister Sharon Gaye Barentine Barnes. He leaves behind 11 grandchildren. A private memorial service was held on August 23, 2020. He will be interred at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona.
