Sherry Louise Nichols
September 7th, 1962 - November 20th, 2021
Sherry Louise Nichols, a long-time resident and business owner in Sierra Vista, Arizona, passed away on November 20, 2021. She was 59 years old. Sherry was born on September 7, 1962, in Pennsylvania to John and Patricia Durkit. She was married to Mark Nichols in Middleton, Nova Scotia, on October 10, 1999, by Mark’s late sister, Leslie Jordan. Sherry was a consummate entrepreneur– from running her pet stores, developing remote agent call centers, assisting in the launch of a multi-million-dollar company, developing a scheduling system, helping to open an office in Canada for a family business, to her final endeavor of owning and operating the largest, locally owned, pet sitting company in Sierra Vista. Her successes were numerous. Sherry’s love for animals showed in how she cared for her own pet family as well as those of her clients. She also had a green thumb and enjoyed mastering the art of growing and caring for her favorite flower, African Violets. Sherry was an adventurer and excitedly took on the challenging terrain of Arizona’s various trails in her Jeep. She also loved spending time with her Sisterhood friends. Sherry found joy in camping, putting together a jigsaw puzzle with a glass of wine in hand, sitting and chatting for hours at her favorite local coffee shop, and zipping around trails on her new ebike, her curly hair flying about wildly. After a long day, Sherry was most content sitting with her husband, gazing at the Huachuca Mountains silhouetted against the setting sun. Sherry was preceded in death by her mother, Patricia Durkit, father, John Durkit, and her brother, Dale Durkit. Sherry is survived by her loving husband, Mark Nichols; her step-daughter, Aleshia Peterson; her step-grandchildren, Mackenzie, Jordan, and Sophia Peterson; her brother John Durkit; and all of her family and friends whose lives she touched with love and kindness. In lieu of flowers, her husband requests donations to be made to the Nancy J. Brua Animal Care Center.
