Master Sergeant Gerald J Nork USAF (Ret) passed away May 15th at Maricopa Medical Center, Phoenix AZ, following a brief illness. Born in Hazleton he was a son of the late Dr. Leonard and Marian Koons Nork. He was a graduate of Hazleton High School and Stevens Trade School and worked for Several auto body shops before joining the Air Force. His Career in the Air Force spanned 21 years achieving the rank of Master Sergeant. Gerry was the recipient of many awards including The Meritorious Service medal, Air Force Medal with One Oak Leaf, Air Force Achievement award with One Oak Leaf, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with 3 Oak Leaves, Air Force Good Conduct Medal with 2 Oak Leaves and National Defense Service Medal with Gold Star. Gerry served in Germany, 2 tours in South Korea and several stateside bases including Nellis in Las Vegas Nevada and Luke in Phoenix Arizona. In retirement Gerald was an avid NASCAR fan and attended races annually at ISM Raceway. He also loved to travel and made several trips abroad to Europe and South America, scuba diving in Belize and hiked up the Temple at Machu Pichu in Peru. Disneyland and Walt Disney World were also favorite destinations. Gerry graduated with honors from Arizona Automotive Institute in April of this year and was about to begin a new career as an auto mechanic. Gerald is survived by his brothers Dr. Leonard (Judy) Hazle Township, Donald (Kathryn) Ocean View DE, Richard (Martha) Northville MI, and a sister Marilee Bindas (James) Modena NY A Memorial service and Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Rosary Church 240 S Poplar St. Hazleton PA on Saturday JULY 20th. Friends will be received from 9 till 10am with services to follow. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Drums PA. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to COURAGEOUS KIDS, 650 CHURCH ST, PLYMOUTH, MI 48170
