Constance Aleta “Connie” Edwards (Smith) was born on April 26, 1946 in Chicago, Illinois. She was the younger of two big brothers – Gerald and Ray. Their early life together was nothing short of challenging. They spent their childhood years in Foster Care in Chicago. By God’s grace they were kept together when moved from home to home. As an adult, Connie became a Licensed Practical Nurse. She found a passion serving dementia and Alzheimer patients. Her strong body and gentle soul allowed her to care for those until the end of their life. She counted that as a privilege and treated each one with dignity. She is survived by her husband of 23 years, Larry Edwards; brother, Jerry Smith Sr.; sister-in-law Kim Smith; niece, Kortney Greene and her spouse Sean Greene, nephew Jerry Smith Jr. and his spouse Caitie Smith; and 4 great-nieces and nephews, Kaelynn Newsom, Victoria Smith, Jerry Smith III, and Gabriel Smith. They will all miss her dearly! She is preceded in death by her brother Lester Dewayne “Ray” Smith, her mother Willa Mae Randall, her father Lester Lloyd, her foster mother Hortence Spalding, her foster father Joe Spalding, and foster brother Russel Spalding. Connie took her last breath on Sunday, April 25, 2021. A Celebration of Life event will take place on Thursday, April 29 at Legacy Funeral home at 11 a.m. We will spend time remembering Connie’s life. In lieu of flowers, the family asks to make a donation in Connie’s name to Hospice of the Valley.
