Janet C. Steffen Merrill

Janet C. Steffen Merrill passed away peacefully on February 4, 2020 in Mesa, Arizona. Janet was born April 23, 1933 in Logan, Utah to Wynn Eugene and Fern Cleone (McBride) Hillstrom. Janet was a woman of great faith; her life centered around God and her family. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in various capacities, including two full time missions in both Salt Lake City, Utah and Bangkok, Thailand. Janet was an example of strength to those around her. She had the opportunity to live in many places, France being one of her favorites. Her great sense of humor was a necessity, being the mother of eight children, seven of them being boys. Her laugh was infectious and genuine. She had a love of words; both reading and writing. Janet could always be found with a newspaper clipping to share, picked especially for the person receiving it. Her poetry was one of her great accomplishments, and she loved sharing it with those around her. Being with her children and grandchildren was one of her greatest joys. She loved spending time with family, and if you were coming to visit, she would prepare your favorite meal. Anyone who was able to spend time with her left feeling uplifted and important. She always tried to exemplify her favorite saying, “Be Cheery!” Janet was preceded in death by her husband, Robert C. Merrill and two sons, Lynn Steffen and Brent Steffen. Janet is survived by five sons, Mark J. Steffen (Rhonda), Todd M. Steffen, Scott A. Steffen, Chad M. Steffen, and James R. “JR” Steffen (Kyrie), and two daughters, Suzanne Steffen and Shauna Steffen. She is also survived by her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2020 at 10:00 am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at 2265 S Hawes Rd, Mesa, Arizona.
