Winifred Louise Glenn
November 22nd, 1927 - August 8th, 2021
Winifred Louise Glenn (Winnie), age 93, passed away on August 8, 2021 in Mesa, Arizona Winnie was born in Lawrence, KS on November 22, 1927 and lived there with her seven siblings until the 1940s when she and her family moved west to Mesa, AZ where in 1945 Winnie graduated from Mesa High School. After high school Winnie went on to attend beautician school but traded in her smock for a career in civil service with the military, until she met her husband, Leland “Lee” Glenn. Together with their 3 children, Lee and Winnie would travel the world during Lee’s 25 years with the US Airforce, only to return to Mesa to retire in the 1970s. Lee and Winnie never lost their love of travel and spent their retirement years traveling in their RV exploring and experiencing what the United States and Canada had to offer, and even managed to visit every state in our great Union. Along the way Lee and Winnie always made time to visit with family, take lots of pictures, and stop for a great slice of pie, chocolate or lemon meringue for Winnie! When she wasn’t behind her camera Winnie loved her arts and crafts which she enjoyed sharing with her grandchildren, and making photo albums of their many adventures together. Music gave Winnie great joy throughout her life. She played drums in the school bands and continued well into her 80s was a member of the Carriage Manor Kitchen Band. Thanks to Winnie’s efforts we are so lucky to have comprehensive genealogy records of the Guildehous, Sullivan and Glenn families. Winnie is survived by two of her three children, Jorja Diane Tutwiler and Howard Earl Glenn; her grandchildren Sherry Madore, Lauri Tutwiler Sicard, Victoria Pratola and Kelly Lawhead; plus seven beautiful great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Leland E Glenn and her son Van E Sullivan as well as her parents Earl and Nancy (Nana) Guildehous; she was the last survivor of her seven siblings. A small family gathering will be held in San Diego, CA at a later date where Winnie will be interred next to her late husband at Mira Mar National Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to Winnie’s surviving children, Jorja Dianne Sullivan (email: [email protected]) and Howard Glenn (email: [email protected])
