Charlene K. (Smith) Day, 89, of Mesa, Arizona, passed away peacefully, surrounded by loving family members, on May 16, 2022 in Gilbert, Arizona. Charlene K. Smith was born July 17, 1932 in Gary, Indiana, the oldest child of Robert H. Smith and Gladys Della Kreischer. In her youth, Charlene was baptized a member of the Glen Park Christian Disciples of Christ Church in Gary, Indiana. She was married to Ramon Van Day on February 13, 1949, and had celebrated 63 years of marriage at the time of her husband's death in 2012. She and her husband moved their family across the country from Portage, Indiana to Mesa, Arizona in August of 1963, where Charlene and her husband remained the rest of their lives. Charlene was employed by Motorola (52nd St.) and City of Mesa. Charlene was the mother of seven children, two of whom preceded her in death: Shawn A. Day and Curtis Van Day. She was also preceded in death by her parents, a brother Gordon Joel Smith, a son-in-law David Boyer, and an infant great-granddaughter Katelyn Abigail Boyer Hazel. She leaves 5 children to mourn her loss: Deborah Boyer, Kerry (Lynn) Day, and Corrine (Gaylann) Harper of Mesa, Arizona; Tina (John) Markowski of Gilbert, Arizona; and Christine (Mike) Adams of Prescott, Arizona; 23 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a sister Lynnaea Brodar of Mesa, Arizona; and a brother Timothy Tetzloff of Cedar Lake, Indiana. Charlene will be best remembered for her thoughtful kindness, her love of family, and her faith in Jesus Christ. She will be greatly missed by all the people who loved her. A viewing will be held at Charlene's residence on June 3rd from 6 to 8 pm, the funeral service will be held also at the residence on June 4th at 9 am, and the graveside service and interment will immediately follow the funeral service at Mountain View Cemetery in Mesa at 11 am.
