Loraine Estella Kokines

On August 20th 2020, Loraine Estella (Ries) Kokines lost her battle with Alzheimer's at the age of 91. Loraine was born on Sept 24, 1928 in Charleston, W.Va. Sometime after her birth they moved to Chicago, IL and became the oldest child of 13. There she met her Husband, Constantine (Gus) Kokines, and had 5 children. They ran a restaurant called Steve's Grill on the southside of Chicago at 47th Ave and Union. They later sold the restaurant and moved to the north west side. I do believe that is where her love for cooking came from. When you came to visit she always made sure that you had something to eat before you left. It could have been anything from a large meal that she had planned for your visit or just something thrown together at the last minute. When my Dad and her retired, they moved to sunny Mesa, AZ where two of her children were living already. Anybody who knew her, knew that Christmas was, by far, her favorite Holiday. It always looked like Christmas exploded in our house. She loved to collect Beanie Babies and had quite the growing collection of "blingage" in her life. She is survived by her children; son, Steven Kokines ( Marybeth ), Michael Kokines (Susan ); daughters, Elaine Beck ( Jeff ), Diane Conway ( Daniel ); grandchildren, Danielle Bodine ( Courtney), Alex Kokines, Nicholas Kokines ( Jonaca); great-grandchildren, Robert (Robby) Bodine, Logan Bodine, Mia Kokines, Sofia Kokines; three sisters, one brother; and many nieces and nephews. Loraine was preceded in death by her husband Constanitne (Gus) and their son Gregory. Visitation will be held Monday August 24, 2020 at 9:00 a.m., services to follow at 10:00 a.m. at Meldrum Mortuary, 52 N. Macdonald, Mesa, AZ 85201. Interment will be held at the City Of Mesa Cemetery, 1212 N. Center St., Mesa, AZ 85201. If you wish to send flowers, please use our local florist.
