Alfred Pell Pettit III
June 9th, 1949 - July 30th, 2020
Alfred Pell Pettit III, known to most people as Al, passed away peacefully at his home in Mesa, Arizona, surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, July 30, from cancer related illnesses. He was born at Fort Bragg in Fayetteville, North Carolina, on June 9, 1949. He was the eldest son of Alfred Pell Pettit, Jr. and Emma Wood Pettit Layton, both of whom preceded him in death. Al was a 1967 graduate of Neptune Senior High School in Neptune, New Jersey. While living in New Jersey, he began his life-time career as a master mechanic. He was a trained firefighter and EMT and served with the Neptune City Volunteer Fire Company for ten years. Al moved to Arizona in 1990, where he was a national representative for the U-Haul Corporation. In 1995, Al grew tired of traveling throughout the United States and living out of a suitcase on behalf of U-Haul, and accepted a position at Earnhardt RV in 1996, now known as Camping World where he has been for the past 24 years. Al is survived by his wife of 23 years, Cathy Marcham-Pettit of Mesa, Arizona; two sons, Alfred John (AJ) Pettit and his wife Dianna of Queensbury, New York; Christopher Marc Pettit and his wife Cassie of Mesa, Arizona; two step sons, Justin Marcham and his wife Kristy, of North Carolina; Ryan Marcham of Mesa, Arizona; and one brother, Gustave J. Pettit of Martinsburg, WV. Al's daughter, Tracey Lynn Pettit, preceded him in death in 2018. He will be truly missed and survived by twelve grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
