Nancy Seidel went home to be reunited with her late husband of 68 years, Bill, on August 21, 2018. She was 89. Nancy Startzel was born on October 31, 1928 in Shamokin, PA., which led to her childhood nickname of "Boo." In 1946, she graduated from Shamokin High School where she enjoyed French and Home Economics classes and, of course, school dances. Nancy worked at Shroyer's Dress Factory after high school and it was there that she met Bill Seidel. They would be wed in April 1949 and they enjoyed a long, loving marriage that was based on spirituality and mischief. Daughter Jan was born to Bill and Nancy in 1952 and the family moved to Mesa, AZ in 1955. As a homemaker, Nancy enjoyed baking (her custard pies were legendary), knitting, crocheting and sewing. She also enjoyed cranking up and singing A dedicated mom, she was the "room mother" for every one of Jan's elementary school classes. Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Wilt and Florence Startzel, sister Polly Schleig and loving husband Bill, who passed away on October 30, 2017. She is survived by a brother, Pepper, daughter Jan (John Jew), granddaughter Rebecca Jew Reining, grandson Matthew Jew and great-grandson Jack Jew. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 8 at 10:00AM in the Columbarium of the First United Methodist Church in Mesa, located at 15 E. 1st Ave. to be followed by a remembrance reception in the Assembly Room at the church. The family is requesting that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the First United Methodist Church in Mesa or Thema Hospice 1500 E. Bethany Home Rd. Phoenix AZ 85014.
